Pella Tulip Festival Queen and Court Visit Iowa Senate
DES MOINES, IA - The 2010 Pella Tulip Festival Queen and her court were the guests of Sen. Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) in the Iowa Senate on March 4, 2010.
The royalty provided Dutch treats to members of the Senate while Sen. McKinley introduced them and urged all members of the Senate to make the trip to Pella to enjoy the 2010 Tulip Festival to be held May 6th, 7th and 8th.
Sen. McKinley’s remarks on the floor of the Iowa Senate:
“I am very proud to represent the city of Pella here in the Iowa Senate and am absolutely delighted to have the 2010 Pella Tulip Festival Queen and her court here this morning. It is always wonderful when our communities all across Iowa come together and celebrate their heritage and commemorate their history.
The Dutch heritage and customs passed on through generations are alive and well in Pella. I would like to invite each and everyone of you to join me this year to take part in this wonderful festival. Over 300,000 tulips have been planted and the citizens of Pella are readying their wooden shoes in anticipation for this spectacular event.
This year’s 75th annual Tulip Festival will be held on May 6, 7, 8 and they are trying to set a Guinness World Record for people dancing in wooden shoes.
The Pella Tulip Festival is truly is one of the real cultural gems we have in Iowa. Please join me in welcoming this year’s Pella Tulip Festival Queen Heidi Schulte and her royal court to the Iowa Senate.”
