Senate Republicans Attempt to Give Iowans Vote on Marriage

Posted by Paul McKinley on February 9th

DES MOINES, IA  - Senate Republican Leader Paul McKinley (R-Chariton) today released the following statement regarding the Senate Republicans’ bi-partisan attempt using a discharge petition to give Iowans a vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment:

“Iowans have made it clear that they want a vote on the basic definition of marriage and Senate Republicans have again tried to allow all Iowans a vote on the Iowa Marriage Amendment. Once again, Republicans are standing up to allow Iowans a vote while Democrats continue to obstruct and turn their backs on the voters.

Iowans are tired of senators saying back home that they support allowing Iowans a vote and then not keep their word when they get to Des Moines. While our bi-partisan effort fell short of gaining the 26 votes needed to proceed, the voters this November will have an opportunity to decide if they are content with the continued Democrat obstruction and inaction.
